标题: Supplier Competition under the Dual-sourcing Setting

We investigate the competitions between two suppliers who serve a same retailer and are subject to random availabilities and market uncertainties. The retailer uses a newsvendor model to determine the order quantity from each supplier, while considering their price and reliability differences. Based on the retailers ordering policy, the suppliers adjust their reliability factors and the whole sale prices in order to maximize their own profits. We model this problem as a supplier game and investigate its Nash equilibrium. For customer demand with general distributions, we provide the necessary and sufficient conditions under which the retailer has positive order quantity from each supplier. The optimal whole sale prices are obtained in closed forms. For the special case when demand follows a uniform distribution, we obtain the closed-form Nash equilibriums for the optimal order quantities of the retailer, and the suppliers' whole sale prices and reliability factors. Further managerial takeaways are presented.

报告人简介:

Lian Qi received the Ph.D degree from Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering University of Florida, Gainesville, FL in 2006. He is currently an assistant professor in Department of Supply Chain Management & Marketing Sciences, Rutgers School of the state University of New Jersey, and also the co-Director of the Undergraduate Program in Supply Chain and Marketing Science. His research interests include Supply Chain Design and Management, Production and Inventory Planning and Control, Operations Management, Design and Analysis of Optimization Algorithms, Enterprise Resource Planning as well as Simulation. He is an editorial board member for Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, and served in program committee of many conferences and co-chaired several workshops.
