People paid last respects to the deceased Prof. Fang Chongzhi, founder of China’s Automation Education

Professor Fang Chongzhi, a renowned automation engineering scientist and one of the pioneers of China’s education of process control, died at age 93 in Beijing on April 18th, 2012. His funeral was held in Babaoshan Cemetery for Revolutionaries on April 22.

Wu Guanzheng, past student of Prof. Fang, also former member of Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and former Secretary of Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, walked slowly toward the remains of Prof. Fang, bowed three times, and shook hands with his family members.

Hu Heping, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University, and Chairman of Tsinghua University Council, bowed to Prof. Fang for a final farewell and expressed condolences to the families.

President of Tsinghua University Chen Jining, Party Secretary of Xiamen University Yang Zhenbin, President of Changchun University of Technology Zhang Dejiang, Vice President of China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research Liu Ping, Vice President of Zhejiang University Chu Jian, Vice President of East China University of Science and Technology Qian Feng, friends and relatives laid flower baskets and wreathes.

About more than 150 people attended the ceremony of paying last respects, including former leaders of Tsinghua University, representatives from School of Information Science and Technology, Department of Automation, and students and teachers from other departments.
